Sun Microsystems - Sunset?

Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ: JAVA) rose over 20% of its shares after having made several falls in recent months, the results exceeded Wall Street expected margin in its second fiscal quarter of 2009.

Sun said it lost $ 208 million or 28 cents per share in the last quarter, compared to sales of its products from $ 114 million or approximately 15 cents per share. Ie Sun earned a net income of $ 3.22 billion.

Despite exceed economic expectations, it seems that Sun is still struggling with the economic crisis affecting the world. Sales fell almost 11% from this year, and gross income was reduced to 41.9% compared to 48.5% last year.

Many economic analysts are close to Sun, which still is struggling to get better results, despite the benefits (excluding costs) which won in the last quarter.

On the other hand, sales of servers that Sun has is being eased by the competition as Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HPQ) and Dell Inc. (NASDAQ: DELL). In fact, sales of servers dropped 14%, ie the revenue from these products fell to $ 1.37 billion U.S. dollars.
